In this new political landscape, many policy changes are afoot which will impact communities such as immigrants, Muslims, people with disabilities, low wage workers, communities of color, and LGBTQ communities. As a community dedicated to equity and justice, it is as urgent as ever to join together to dialogue, coordinate and strategize to protect and stand for justice.

Following the Goldmark Luncheon, we invite all whose work intersects with the civil, criminal, and juvenile justice systems to gather, align, and strategize. While there are multiple issues and communities we want to mobilize around, we will start off with two issues which are front and center in our country’s dialogue – immigration and healthcare.

Policy experts will give us the lay of the land, what they are preparing for, and what strategies are being developed. Then we’ll break up into small groups based on those and other issues such as the targeting and criminalization of communities of color, fair housing and education to coordinate, plan for alignment and action, and identify how we can best use future convening opportunities like the Access to Justice Conference in June to further our collective efforts.

It also considers family law issues such as marriage, marriage dissolution, child support, and adoption. This is a temporary position through July 31, 2015.

House Public Safety Committee – The person selected to fill this position will provide staff support to the House Public Safety Committee. This committee considers issues relating to law enforcement agencies, crime prevention, criminal penalties and sentencing, impaired driving, registration and civil commitment of sex offenders, adult correctional programs and institutions, mentally ill offenders, and state and local government preparedness to respond to public emergencies, including the interoperability of emergency communications systems. You will be able to analyse and document key findings in light with international standards on business and human rights and collate your research into comprehensive and influential reports recommending legal and political change relevant to this subject area from the London office. In fact, capitalising on your astute understanding and awareness of Business & Human Rights, you’ll advise people right across AI. More than that, providing expert guidance on research and methodology, you’ll promote the quality and consistency of our work. Justice for Our Neighbors – Nebraska (JFON-NE) is a non-profit organization welcoming immigrants into our communities by providing high-quality legal services, education, and advocacy. JFON-NE is part of the national JFON network.

Responsibilities of the position: The JFON-NE Rural Capacity Building (RCB) Staff Attorney is responsible for the provision of direct legal services to immigrant families in and around Crete and South Sioux City. The RCB Staff attorney will also work on identifying collaborative community partners to help build capacity for the provision of long-term immigration legal services in these communities. The RCB Staff Attorney position will be located in Omaha and will work in coordination with established community partners to promote community education and advocacy of immigrants’ rights to the end of promoting inclusion of the immigrant community.

We have served thousands of people and worked with dozens of community groups for community organizing and education regarding prevention of sexual and domestic violence, exploitation, and human trafficking. We understand the cultural norms and stigmas associated with such violence and believe in the inherent strength and potential of each person to address situations in which there has been systematic emotional and physical violence. Our services are free, confidential, and available to any person in need.

API Chaya formed from the merger of two organizations in 2011: the Asian & Pacific Islander Women & Family Safety Center and Chaya. The Safety Center grew out of organizing within the Filipino community in 1993 sponsored by the Washington State Commission on Asian American Affairs out of concern for the prevalence of violence against women in their community, including several murders of Asian Pacific women. The Safety Center hired staff in 1997 to work with community groups to organize for justice and social change. Chaya was established in 1996 to serve South Asian women in times of crisis and need and to raise awareness of domestic violence issues.
