Upcoming this week: Perspectives on Addressing Corruption in Kenya

April 26: Cutting the Gordian Knot: Perspectives on Addressing Corruption in Kenya

Time: 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Date: Wednesday, April 26, 2017
Place: MacFarlane Lounge, UW School of Law

Kenya has been one of the few countries in sub Saharan Africa to experience relative stability and security in the last 50 years. It has had a functioning government since independence and regular electoral cycles. It has often been the center of stability as conflict raged in neighboring countries such as Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan. However, even with continued stability, corruption has remained a major impediment to progress. Transparency International has ranked Kenya poorly on levels of corruption for a long time. This is despite the country having a new constitution, functional institutions and strong anticorruption laws. This presentation will explore the impact of corruption on ordinary citizens and discuss why corruption remains pervasive and entrenched in the country. It will also discuss some practical solutions from a practitioners’ perspective. Read more here.
