Public Justice, a national public interest law firm dedicated to pursuing justice for the victims of corporate and government abuse, seeks to hire two legal interns for Summer 2016. The interns will work in either Public Justice’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. or its Oakland, California office. Both interns will assist attorneys in both of Public Justice’s offices.
Public Justice’s legal interns research and develop new cases in conjunction with our staff attorneys, law fellows, and cooperating counsel. They also provide assistance to attorneys in ongoing litigation. Their work will not, however, focus on our Environmental Enforcement Project. Our interns are involved in legal research and writing, case review, and brainstorming on theories and approaches designed to ensure that justice is achieved.

Washington AGO (Olympia) Seeks Assistant Attorney General – Revenue Division, Due 7/31
The Revenue Unit has an opening for a lawyer who enjoys working in a collegial and supportive environment. Revenue AAGs primarily handle all aspects of excise and property tax refund claims and provide advice to the Department of Revenue. Revenue AAGs generally practice before the Board of Tax Appeals (BTA) and the Thurston County Superior Court, and in the federal courts in tax disputes involving Indian law and other federal issues. Practice in the Revenue Unit includes engaging in written discovery and taking depositions, a considerable amount of legal research and writing, arguing motions and handling hearings before the BTA, and motions practice in the Thurston County Superior Court. Revenue AAGs also regularly handle appeals in the Washington Court of Appeals and the Washington Supreme Court, and occasionally work on tax cases that reach the United States Supreme Court. Revenue cases often involve challenging and complex statutory and constitutional issues, and multi-million dollar refund claims. And since virtually all business activity in Washington is taxed, Revenue AAGs get to learn about all sorts of different businesses.

Center for Community Solutions Seeking Staff Attorney for Domestic Violence Program, Due 8/3
Since 1969, Center for Community Solutions (CCS) has been creating safe and healthy communities with a core emphasis on the prevention and intervention of sexual assault and relationship violence. The staff attorney will provide legal assistance to victims of domestic violence served by the East Domestic Violence Services (DVS) program. Supervision for the position is provided by the Litigation Manager. The position is stationed twenty hours per week at the El Cajon Courthouse to staff CCS’ Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DVRO) Clinic. The remaining twenty hours per week are devoted to providing additional legal services to clients, providing education for the DVS advocacy staff, and conducting training and outreach in the community.
