The Government Affairs Section provides legal advice and civil litigation services on a wide variety of local government topics including constitutional issues, finance and budgeting, business regulations, charter issues, ordinances and resolutions, ethics and elections, initiatives and referendums, state and local tax, public records act compliance, administrative rulemaking, and inter/intra-governmental relations. Attorneys advise elected officials and staff from all City departments, handle an array of civil code requirements, and defend the City in civil actions related to the above topics. The Section is seeking an attorney with litigation and municipal law experience and exceptional professional performance.
· Defend the City in actions related to constitutional, regulatory and municipal law issues.
· Advise elected officials and staff from all City departments.
· Handle an array of civil code requirements
· Must be a member in good standing of the Washington State Bar for a minimum of three years
· Minimum of two years litigation experience
· Minimum one year of providing legal services to municipal or county governments.
Salary: $34.86 – $44.06 hourly; $72,787.68 – $91,997.28 annually

The Criminal Division represents the City in prosecuting misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, and traffic infractions in Seattle Municipal Court. The types of cases prosecuted by the Criminal Division include driving under the influence, misdemeanor domestic violence, theft, assault, property damage and trespassing. The person in this position will perform a variety of professional duties involving the investigation, preparation and prosecution of misdemeanor cases in Seattle Municipal Court.
