1) Family Law CASA has an externship position available for the upcoming school year, starting as early as Autumn Quarter 2012, to work on cases in which the court has appointed lay volunteers to make recommendations as to the best interests of children in contested divorce, third-party custody and paternity cases. The Family Law CASA program provides legal representation to these lay volunteers by assisting them in the writing of their reports and the presentation of their cases in court. Students will have the opportunity to become familiar with family law practice and procedure and will have the opportunity to network with those involved in the family law bar. The position is open to students who are Rule 9 eligible. Student must work at the field placement for 12-24 hours/week. The two-credit Child Advocacy Seminar offered by Professor Lisa Kelly in Fall Quarter 2012 will satisfy the seminar requirement for students taking 6+ credits, and Professor Kelly will be the faculty supervisor for this externship.
2) Society of Counsel Representing Accused Persons (SCRAP): The Dependency Division of SCRAP seeks one extern for Fall Quarter 2012 to work on cases representing young people who are in state care due to alleged abuse, neglect, abandonment, or who have no parent that is otherwise able to care for them. Either 2Ls or 3Ls may apply. Student must work at the field placement for 18-39 hours/week (preference will be given to students who are available more rather than fewer hours). Regardless of how many externship credits student seeks, student must also enroll in the two-credit Child Advocacy Seminar offered by Professor Lisa Kelly in Fall Quarter 2012 (which satisfies the seminar requirement for this externship). Professor Kelly will be the faculty supervisor for this externship.
